A mobile-first fantasy rhythm battle game where guitar riffs power dragons, defeat bosses and unlock new worlds.
Dragon Rock: Battle of the Bands is an original browser-based rhythm combat game created in collaboration with Tarlera Crane as Creative Director. Players hit notes in time with the music to attack fantasy enemies, build combos, charge Dragon Energy and unleash powerful dragon abilities.
Unlike a traditional rhythm game where notes only increase a score, every successful or missed note directly affects the battle. Accurate timing increases attack damage and Dragon Energy, while missed notes allow enemies to counterattack and reduce the player's health.
The first playable version includes two populated fantasy worlds, multiple battles, unique bosses, unlockable dragons, four difficulty modes and player progression.
Dragon Rock also includes a protected Creator Studio that allows new dragons, bosses, worlds and levels to be created without editing the game's source code. Creative content follows a Draft → Ready for Dad → Approved → Live workflow, allowing Tarlera to freely develop ideas while protecting the live game.
The game was designed mobile-first as an installable PWA, with large touch controls for phones and keyboard controls for desktop. Its soundtrack system uses original browser-generated music rather than commercial recordings, helping keep the project independent and copyright-safe.
